How Reiki Restores and Renews

Serving clients in Brooklyn, New York, and surrounding areas, Reiki in Brooklyn with Marta Hernández is a pioneer in the Japanese practice of the non-envasive healing art of Reiki.

"Reiki has become a way of life for me and I have seen its transformative effects in myself and in others."

Early Beginnings

For many years, I have been committed to the practice of yoga and meditation, and it was first at Mount Tremper Monastery, a Zen Monastery in Upstate New York, and then at the Blue Cliff Monastery, founded by Thich Nhat Han, a global spiritual leader, poet and peace activist,

where I learned the value of work, the meaning of silence as well as the importance of self-respect and the joy of giving to oneself and to others, but most importantly, I learned about the meaning of breathing.

Teaching Background

Finding happiness in being around friends, peers, and people in general, is part of the reason why I chose teaching as a career. I love the magical exchange of giving and receiving that goes from teacher to student and vice versa. I have been teaching Reiki for the past 10 years and I have more than 20 years of experience teaching Spanish. I love the connection, challenge, communication, and creativity that come with teaching as an exchange. In my own experience, Reiki is all of this and so much more.

Discovering Reiki

It was through my friend Liz Taub, a clinical social worker, hypnosis practitioner and musician, that Reiki came into my life. She told me Reiki could be learned by anyone who would be drawn to it, and that we all had the potential to channel it. This was a turning point for me. I became a Reiki Master Practioner in New York City with Reiki Master Brenda Lehrer of the Western Usui Ryoho System, and I studied in Madrid with Reiki Master Olga Pintó, where I became certified Master Practitioner in the Western-Traditional Japanese Usui Reiki Ryoho, as taught by Hiroshi Doi.  Also,  in New York City I became a certified Komyo Reiki Master by Rev. Hyakuten Inamoto.  These teachers are very important in my life and I honor all traditions as well.

Continuing Experience

It was here in this city that I became familiar with the work of Pamela Miles, a Reiki Master Practitioner and Teacher, who has contributed her research and articles to bring Reiki into NYC hospitals. I have participated as a practitioner at the Reiki clinic she supervises in the Jewish Community Center of Manhattan and many different events around the New York area.  I also have worked regularly with Reiki Master and nurse practitioner Lilia V. Marquez, at VA Harbor Health Care System, in Manhattan where she holds different events. These practices have given me a unique opportunity to experience Reiki with other professionals in a clinical setting. As I continue studying and practicing, I had the honor to be taught and attuned by Hyakuten Inamoto sensei, a Buddhist monk and a Komyo Reiki Kai™ Master based in Japan.

Reiki and Music

On the therapeutic aspect, Reiki helps me cope with stress, headaches, and the ups and downs of life in general, especially in fast-paced New York City.  I am a musician who plays regularly both in New York and internationally. Reiki is so much part of my music, that I could not place one apart from the other.  Reiki enhances and unblocks my creativity, giving me confidence and clarity of mind when writing my songs, playing the guitar or singing (if you are curious about my music project, you may click here). It helps me to slow down and has helped me to deal with stage anxiety, bringing me inner peace and the space to fully enjoy my performances. Reiki brings me the balance that i need to share the joy of music and safely communicate with an audience. On the spiritual aspect, Reiki has become the natural path of a search that began more than ten years ago, and back when I came to this city from Seville, my hometown in Spain.
